Project: Athens Community Gardens
For Athens residents, the community gardens offer a free opportunity to grow their own food and give back. Long-time city residents, apartment dwellers, students, and members of the international community work their own plot of ground, while voluntarily donating a portion of their organic harvest back to CFI. CFI distributes the fresh produce to local free meal programs and low-income families. CFI currently has two Community Garden sites: the Hope Garden and the Westside Community Garden. This project is made possible with support from The Athens Foundation.

“The majority of gardeners felt that
by participating in the community
garden they had improved their
diets through eating more fruits and vegetables, decreased the amount of
money they spent on food,
became more physically active and
decreased the amount of fast food
that they consumed.”
